  • Day at the lake

For mommy daughter day we went to the lake. My #3 is growing up into a wonderful young woman.

She and I spent the whole day at the lake. We went on a few little tails. She spent hours in the water. I’m glad I made her day special! #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #mjbackyardingwithkids #largefamily #numberthreeday #mommyanddaughterday #lake

  • Hot day

The girls ( chickens ) needed some more waters! With it being so hot out I wanted to make them more but there has been a bucket shortage going on I guess. I finally found buckets and lids at one of my favorite stores, tractor supply!

The girls get pretty red ones this time. They will still have their other waters I have made them. These new ones will go in different areas for more access. ( 5 gallon buckets, poultry drinking cups I order off of Amazon) and the cool thing that I didn’t plan on is the cups match the buckets 😅. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #mjbackyardingwithkids #newpoultrywaters #heat #summer #chickens #hot https://www.etsy.com/listing/1036148023/cute-mugs?utm_medium=SellerListingTools&utm_campaign=Share&utm_source=Facebook&share_time=1623788320000&utm_term=so.slthttps://www.facebook.com/MJkidsandchickensblog/

  • Ding dong

It’s summer time and that means more outdoor work. Today I changed out our old broken door bell. Normally I don’t like to do things with electricity alone. For me that’s one of those things you should have someone around in case you zap yourself.

The old one still worked just with age the button started to break.

The new one is just a simple one. I’m Glad I took the chance and did it! #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #doorbelldone

  • Time flys

It seems just like yesterday my husband and I welcomed our first born into the world and now 18 years later we are celebrating his graduation! Looking back as a parent I think about all those birthdays, the excitement when he finished his first book he was reading all by himself, his first steps, and words.. I hope he enjoyed his childhood and now as he enters the world I can only hope that his father an I prepared him well. Happy graduation son, you worked hard keep working hard! #1growingup #happygraduation #18yearswentbyfast

  • Hard few weeks

It’s been a hard few weeks here on our little homestead we had some deaths in the family. We took a few weeks to let things process. After many months of trying to get apple seeds to start to germinate I finally got one! 🙌 fingers crossed for the other seeds.

I was so happy to see this little seed! My candy striped peppers are doing wonderful.

Corn is coming in also. But I forgot to take photos of it 😅. What are some seeds that were giving you trouble but now have taken off? I love getting emails showing your gardens! #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #gardening #beenahardfewweeks.

  • Warmer weather

With the Warmer weather finally my quail have started laying!

I’m looking forward to making pickled eggs out of some of them. The rest I’ll use to feed back to the girls ( chickens ). For laying chickens they need 16% protein at lest but for mine I like to do 18% to 20% for egg quality.

    My girls ( chickens ) have picked up nicely. I’m hoping in the future to have darker bcm ( black copper mearan ) eggs. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #eggs #yummy #workingoncolorsformyeggs

  • Behind

For the past few months I’ve had massive headaches. Which has made me behind on a lot of work. This week miricrochet is coming over to help me paint one of the rooms! A big thank you to her! I did get a some art done. I did a wolf in a tree.

The paint is still wet but I’m happy with how it turned out.

  • Mugs

My kids spring break ended yesterday. I enjoyed having the week off from school. I got a lot done and a lot of relaxing done! After school I worked on some designs for mugs. I enjoyed making these ones. I think they turned out well.

My video is not that great on my phone.

    Out of all my crafts that I do, doing the mugs is my favorite! #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #mugs #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #crafts #mug #flowermug #chickmug https://www.etsy.com/listing/1036148023/cute-mugs?utm_medium=SellerListingTools&utm_campaign=Share&utm_source=Facebook&share_time=1623708626000&utm_term=so.slt

  • Happy Easter

Happy Easter! We colored eggs this evening. We only colored chicken eggs this year they turned out cute!! The quail are not laying yet. I love coloring the quail eggs I was a little sad that we wouldn’t have them this year for coloring this Easter. My younger two are already in bed waiting for the Easter bunny to come. It would be nice if they went to sleep soon because this Easter bunny would like to go to bed 🤣

  • Molting

Right now my quail are molting. Feathers every where they look like little feather less birds running around but what is molting ? Molting is a hormonal process of shedding the old feathers and then the new ones to come in. During this egg production can slow down or come to a complete stand still until they are done. After the molt is done it can take a few weeks before laying starts to pick up again. Coturnix quail normally molt twice a year. This is the first time my quail are at a complete stand still for laying. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #mjbackyardingwithkids #moltingishard #molting #notprettytomoltbutneeded #newprettyfeathersarecoming #homesteading
