  • Rug

Last year around the end of October I started making a pom pom rug for one of my kids. #1 wanted a big rug and the colors were to be purple and green. With supplies being hard to find during some months I went with a few darker purples as you will see.

I’m glad my #1 likes the rug as you can see in the photos the cat does also. I will not be making another rug of this size. Making that many pom poms takes a lot of time. I’ll still be making ones that are bath mat size. #3 wants one for her room next. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #mjbackyardingwithkids #crafts #rug

  • Some fun crafts

I’ve taken a small break from house painting to work on some crafts. I’ve really enjoyed making shirts for some friends!

The coasters were my favorite thing to make! I think I will make more of them soon.

and of course can’t leave out my eggs! Laying is starting to pick up for the girls they are looking very nice

I’m in love my bcm ( black copper mearan) egg color. I would love someday to have them darker but that will come in time. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #eggs #crafts #bcm

  • Ouch!

Quail can bring many surprises. Many do not know how aggressive the coturnix quail can be and many do not know that every once an while they can lay an egg the size of a bantam egg. I’ve been raising coturnix quail for four years now. Every time one of my hens lays a huge egg it still surprises me.

The egg in the middle is the egg one of my hens laid. As you can see it’s huge. It was a double Yolk. I was really hoping it would of been a triple yolk.

  • It’s that time

Normally I would wait to start my seeds until late February. This year I decided to start them now. I have a lot to plant to make sure I have enough food for my family and for the girls (chickens). I find that I organize my seeds a lot 🤣 what’s your favorite thing to grow? I really couldn’t pick a favorite. There are many that I enjoy and look forward to growing. I am excited this to have popcorn seeds. I thought it would be fun for the kids to grow and make their own popcorn. Fingers crossed we don’t lose it #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #gardening #timetogetstarted #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding

  • Happy new year

This year has been an interesting one for many. For us I worked mostly on the house. I’m almost done with getting the whole house painted back to white. The colors I have are not neutral for selling. My husband and I decided that I would be best to give the next owner a blank canvas to work with. I did get some of my paintings done while the kids were on winter break.

I also made a lot of fudge the last few weeks. I still have 6 more batches to make. This was my newest flavor added to the list of ones I make. Rocky road!

Happy new year! Hope this year brings more happiness than sadness! I would also like to say thank you for following and sending me emails thanking me for writing my blog. I really appreciate it! #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #gardening #hobby #backyarding #largefamily #food #eggs #movingsoon #thankyou #pleasefollow #pleaseshare

  • Treats!

Today after I was done doing school with the kids I made some chicken treats!

Making these are fun and they do smell good while baking. My #1 thought I was making cookies for them. Lol I shouldn’t of stopped him and let him take one 🤣. I used mostly Christmas theme for this batch. Reindeer, houses, Santa glove, Santa, snow flakes, a train, and a few hearts for fun.

I also like that they can be used for dog treats too. I didn’t get a chance to get a photo of any of the livestock or our dog trying these they ate them up very quickly. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #hobby #backyarding #chickentreats Join me on Parler Social Media! https://par.pw/download

  • Cookie

Today we added a new thing to do around Thanksgiving! Turkey cookie! The 3 younger kids and I decorated a cookie turkey! It was a kit, we had fun the two younger ones had fun with the frosting as you can see. Although if I was to do it over again. I would of bought extra frosting having the extra frosting would of helped out a lot especially since #5 was trying to eat most of it!! 🤣 What is something you or your family likes to do for Thanksgiving?

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate the holiday! #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #cookiekitneedsmorefrosting #itwasfunthough #mjbackyardingwithkids Join me on Parler Social Media! https://par.pw/download

  • Seeds

What seeds are you getting ready to store? So far I’ve done sun flowers, cucumbers, habaneros, chili peppers, tomatoes of different varieties, bell peppers, pumpkin, soon I will do zucchini, and this evening I’m working on the pomegranate seeds.

I will need to clean the pulp off each of these seeds by squeezing them and running them under cool water. Then rubbing them with a paper towel to get the rest of the pulp off. Then they will air dry after they are fully dry I can store them until I’m ready to plant some more pomegranate trees. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #gardening #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #harvest #seeds Join me on Parler Social Media! https://par.pw/download

  • Puma

One of the crafts I’ve been working on is this ceramic puma

I wanted to give this to #3 for her birthday that is coming up. When I bought this item I didn’t realize that its missing a tooth. Later on I will be making a tooth for it.

It took me a few weeks to get this done. I haven’t done a big ceramic like this in a long time.

After its all done I called #3 in to see it. She loves it! I knew she would want a different spin on it and not have the colors of a real puma.. If I had it to do over again I think I would of checked out the item better to make sure nothing was broken off of it. I love that my kids ask me to make/paint them things. 🖤🤎 #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #mjbackyardingwithkids #birthdaysarecoming #largefamily #homesteading #crafts #puma

  • Fodder

It’s been a busy few weeks for me. I almost have the living room and bathroom painted all the way! Yay! After doing some reading we have decided to start the fodder way for feeding the girls ( chickens) and quail. I will need 45 trays or more once we start getting more livestock. So far I have gotten 4 trays made. I decided to make them for right now but you can find them online if you don’t want to make yours.

Start with getting aluminum cake pans and then a fork or small screwdriver is what I used to make the holes I know some people use a nail and hammer. Do what ever way is easier for you.

This is one of the finished pans.

Fodder, also called provender, “Fodder” refers particularly to food given to the animals, rather than that which they forage for themselves. Chickens need 2-3% of their body weight in fodder each day, that is if you’re only feeding fodder and not layer feed I will still be feeding layer feed. Fodder is great nutritional value (vitamins, minerals, proteins, enzymatic activity, omega 3’s, amino acids, natural hormones, immune response. They will eat less because fodder is healthier, at least thats the idea.. lol since this will be our first winter doing this, we will see how much layer feed we will go through. For doing fodder you can use whole grain wheat, barley, (these are the two most commonly used) sprouted grains, but sprouting can also be done with oats, sunflower seeds, alfalfa, lentils, clover, mung beans, soybeans, and wild bird seed. I would love to get some alfalfa if anyone knows a good place to get some please let me know! I started out with soft white wheat berries.

You can get a spray bottle to spray the seeds twice a day. With doing fodder you have to be careful it doesn’t mold. I like to lightly shake out the trays after I’ve sprayed them just incase there is some standing water. My kids are also enjoying growing the fodder. They enjoy spraying it. Then it turns into who can spray the most 🤦‍♀️🤣#pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #mjbackyardingwithkids #hobby #homesteading #backyarding #newfoodsystem #fodder you can also follow me on parler!
