  • Next season

Starting to get ready for next season! My husband found some seeds I’ve been wanting to get. My giant pumpkin plant gotten eaten by something. He found me some Atlantic giant pumpkin seeds! Super excited to plant these I don’t want to wait until February to get started 🀣

He also got me some new bulbs. Lilies, tulips, iris, and hyacinth. I’m going to put these ones into pots that way I can move them around the yard .

  • Fermenting

This year we decided to start saving our seeds from what we harvest. Normally every year I would just go buy new seeds. I’m enjoying saving our seeds but its also taken some research! I’ve been growing a lot of different varieties of tomatoes this year. It has been fun seeing all the different kinds growing. I’ve never really saved the seeds from the fruit. I’ve saved seeds from other things and thats pretty straight forward but the tomato seeds are in the gel and you can plant them straight from the fruit but what do you do if you want to save your seeds!? Fermentation! You will need a small spoon, a Mason jar with a lid, knife, water, wax paper, and a fine mesh strainer. Cut your tomato. Take your spoon and scoop out the gel and the seeds place them in the jar ( if you put water in your jar half way you can dip your spoon in the water, to clean it off before you do the next scoop) continue scooping out all the seeds. When you’re done, put your lid on. You will shake the jar 2 or 3 times a day for the next 5 to 7 days. After the allotted time, open the jar ( its gonna smell 🀒🀒) put the seeds over the strainer and rise under the water to make sure all the gel is off. The dump them on your wax paper. Some people say you can use a paper plate but the seeds can get stuck to the paper. After your seeds are dry, place in your container for when you’re ready to plant again. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #mjbackyardingwithkids #homesteading #gardening #tomatoes #seeds #itsgonnasmell you can also follow me on Parler app. @mjbackyardingwithkids

  • Cartons and Cantaloupe

My new egg cartons came today. I really like the charcoal color. In the photo they look a little more blue.

While we were out watering this evening I found our first cantaloupe for the season!

It’s so cute and exciting. The younger kids are really excited to finally see something growing. They have been going out after school to check for something to harvest. They didn’t see this one it was buried under the leaves.. I told them this one needs a little more time. 🀣🀣 #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #neweggcartons #lovemynewcolor #gardening #mjbackyardingwithkids #growing. • Birthday, pain, & work

For the last few weeks my neck has been hurting. Being a mom of any size family you know that our work never ends even if we are sick or hurting the show must go on. I’m doing better now which is nice because its not easy cleaning coops with shooting pain in your neck. My birthday came and went having neck pain wasn’t a fun birthday gift 🀣🀣but my husband, kids, and my mom made it a nice day. I was given farm related items 🀣🀣. Also we started back to school. I love teaching the kids πŸ–€πŸ€Ž. Number five likes having the same schedule as his older siblings and is doing very well at writing which makes me so proud. For number four and five I have added learning about the human body and the planets. They are really interested in dinosaur bones so I thought it would be fun to learn about the human bones. As for my oldest I can’t believe he’s in his last year of school.. 😱😱 where did the time go. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #neckpainsucks #mjbackyardingwithkids #largefamily #workstillneedstobedone #birthday #farmstillgoesone #homesteading

  • School is starting

We start school in two weeks. I’ve been working non stop on getting things ready. My lesson planning is almost done

I have the kids color coded but #1 and #2 are not in this planner. I feel they are old enough to keep track of their own schedules. The desks and books are set. Everyone’s books but #5 is on their desk or in the cubbies. #5 will be starting out for school schedule this year just like the older kids. He will get up when they do unlike last year where he got to sleep in and then did his school work. This year I have a senior, 7th grader, 4th grader, 1st grader, and kindergarten

Please forgive my half painted room. I’m still working on getting this room painted back to white. I was hoping to have this room done before we started school lol but other things needed to get done first! Yesterday I got 23 jars of pickles made ( dill and bread & butter) I also got six pepperoni sticks sliced up. I love to use the pepperoni to go with snacks.

After everything was done I got nine bags.

  • Getting ready

The end of summer vacation is coming for us. Which in a way I don’t want it to end but I’m looking forward to getting school started. This year all five will be doing school. #5 is very excited to be starting school. Today we got his new charts hung up and I wrote the first weeks spelling for him. Tomorrow and on the weekend I’ll work on getting the other plans written out for the other subjects for the other kids.

While shopping for their school supplies I found backpack that was so awesome I had to get it. It was for me though πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I grew up watching the Friends TV show. When I saw this I had to get it.

MY garden is doing well. We got our first huckleberries. Next year I’m hoping to have enough to make some jam out of them. This year I think I will do a mix of huckleberries and peaches for jam.

Our grapes are looking good. I hope I get a good amount of them this year. I would like to make jam or juice out of them.

  • My big beautiful tomato plant

My beautiful black beauty tomato plant! There is a tomato cage in there with it. I’m excited to see this plant take off. It had a very slow start. The plant already has 3 tomatoes on it πŸ˜‹ can’t wait to try these ones. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #gardening #mjbackyardingwithkids #tomatoes #homesteading #green

  • Hot windy days

Where I live it has been hot but the wind never fails us blowing things over/ destroying some items. Having 30 to 70 mph winds is not fun. This week I got some good size wood rounds from one of my best friends mother in law. I will get to use the chainsaw on them this weekend! It will be fun as long as I don’t cut off my arm or leg 🀣🀣😱. My tomatoes are doing well. I’m hoping soon to be able to make ketchup or Spaghetti sauce with them.

I got a cute photo from the nesting box of the girls eggs. Its so nice when they lay their eggs in a photo ready position 🀣

My passion red flower bloomed today. I’m really liking this flower. I’m wishing I had gotten more of them 🀣🀣

  • The start of the year

I started growing my items for the garden back in February. I wanted more time just in case some seeds didn’t take. I’m not even half way through for harvest yet. The kids enjoy picking the strawberries. I’m actually surprised I was able to get them in the photo. They have been eating them right away.

some plants are ready for small harvest. Tonight I got blackberries, berries, strawberries, peas, and of course eggs! For what I do have done though I’m proud of myself!

In these top photos I have done, jams of different flavors, a few syrups, Mandarin oranges, carrots, pickled eggs, apple sauce, applebutter, pickles, and monkey butter. The other day I made pickled shrimp! They were amazing .. lol and thats why they are not in the photo😘😜. I will definitely have to make them again soon.

    Close up photo of the pickles I got done. In the next few months I will be making more as another plant will be ready for harvest. #pleasefollow #pleaseshare #thankyou #hobby #backyarding #gardening #eggs #growing #mjbackyardingwithkids #pickles #jam #canning #keepgrowing #homesteading #harvest
