This weekend the kids and I have had the flu. When you have kids and they have the flu it’s a lot like a frat party. No one wants to do anything and everyone is puking. When you become a mom you have an idea about how you want to do things there is an image of what you think it will be like. No one ever thinks about their kid puking on their taco that they are having for lunch or getting woken up in the middle of the night and having their kid puke in their face. One day you and children’s child will all be sitting around a table and all the sleepless night, all fits, all the toys that get left out, and all the puking will be worth it when you are sitting around that table telling your grandchildren about the time their dad threw up in a taco. #flu #momlife #dadlife #parentslife #hobby #backyarding #pukeinataco #taco #largefamily #children #kids #lotsofcleaning # fratpartys #sickkids

Yesterday evening our neighbor was having a tree removed from their yard. The company doing it didn’t have a good hold on a limb they were cutting it fell into my yard knocking over my flower pots into my pond. When I was outside cleaning up the mess of mud now in my pond I noticed my pond spitter was now smashed! I called our neighbor and asked her who I needed to speak with about getting reimbursed. They said they check and get back to me. Well this evening my neighbor showed up with a new spitter for my pond. I was amazed that they replaced it out of their own pocket! I was going to talk to the company. It goes to show you that there are good people out there who do the right thing. It’s hard to find that these days. This evening the kids wanted to play hide and seek. They always make me be the seeker lol. This time I decided I wasn’t going to yell ” ready or not here I come ” after I was done counting. Today for one of my projects I’m making beef jerky! This goes by fast in our house. With summer coming I will be making it more as it’s a great snack for the kids. This time I’m using beef loin tri tip roast.

I use a meat slicer for my larger cuts of meat then I cut them smaller by hand.

This first bowl of meat will be marinating over night in Hawaiian style marinade.

The second bowl will marinade over night in Teriyaki. Then both bowls will go into the food dehydrator for 10 hours. There are lots of hard things in life. The ones that are out of my control hit me hard but the ones I could have controlled hit me the hardest. Over the weekend a few of my quail got out (my latch came undone somehow). My oldest son and husband came out to help get them back in. Walking around the yard I noticed a lot of feathers and blood where the dog area is. It hit me one of my quail went into the dog area and the dogs got a hold of it. I felt horrible if I only checked my doors. Last night I made some soap out of melt n pour. I’m happy with starting out with melt n pour. With number 5 ( my two year old) wanting to help with everything it would be hard to do cold press soap right now. When hes older I plan on doing cold press but for now at lest I can have fun with my hobby. This batch of soap I made is shea butter with activated charcoal with the fragrance black raspberry vanilla! It smells so good I can’t wait to try it out! I got eight bars out of the small loaf mold. 😁🖤

Last night I got to go have dinner wih one of my best friends who I haven’t seen in over a year! We still text each other almost every day but I missed seeing her in person very much!! I probably talked her ear off, she and I have a few of the same goals that we want to accomplish. It was nice to talk with someone who understands and has that same passion. There are very few people who will let you sit there and talk about chickens or other animals with you over and over again, most are dismissive. We also share photos but instead of showing photos of our kids to each other .. that’s right you guessed it….we showed our chickens/Turkeys and dream animal breeds we would like to get in the future. Cleaning is something that never ends. Today I cleaned out the brooders. Number five wanted nothing more than to help me out in his own two year old way. Which anyone knows that when they are “helping” in their way means more work for mom. After the brooders were rinsed out he ran inside. I thought he was finally bored and was going to give up on his part of “helping” me. He came back out with rag! He started drying the brooders with me. Mom win! I give my quails and girls (chickens) oysters shells, they need calcium for the shells of the eggs. For the longest time I toyed around with the idea of giving them back the shells of their eggs. My first thought when this idea was introduced to me was … I don’t want to make an ” egg eater” that’s when the chickens egg their eggs sometimes they do this because they are missing something from their diet (some also think making an “egg eater is a myth) other times they might just be a dork. Doing more research on this I found that if you wash the egg shells first, letting the egg shells dry out, the breaking them up on to a baking sheet and baking for 10 mins at 250 degrees makes them easier to crush up into small bits. Some might tell you that they do this to kill bacteria and they might even bake them for longer time than what I do. I’m not worried about bacteria.
